Bitsy caught her bottle fly before Itsy got her's (itsy's the one that pounced in the video). Then Bitsy couldn't figure out how she was going to get her cargo up on her nest. XD 6-7-09 Update : Bitsy's first brood are 1st Instars now and moving around. I'm still waiting for my new camera lens to get some shots of the slings. Itsy's eggs have hatched as well. I'm not %100 sure, but Bitsy's 2nd nest might've hatched - looks a little bit darker in there.. Good thing I bought 24 more vials today. I'm gonna be knee-high in new spiders. XD Bites of Phidippus johnsoni are not generally harmful to humans unless you're very allergic to spiders. Never been bitten, but I imagine it's very itchy like a common sac spider.

Cobalt Blue Tarantula

logo

A truly "Holy Grail" Spider, the beautiful, but highly-aggressive H.Lividum, otherwise known as the Cobalt Blue Tarantula, from Vietnam/Laos, shares a few priceless moments on my arm, without me running for cover, (but clearly hyperventilating) for fear of being bitten by this amazing animal. I rarely hold her, she is "eye candy"; and even seeing her in a given month is cause for celebration, (I've never even seen her eat, just the leftovers) and holding her is akin to skydiving in adrenaline-rush intensity, as I cannot decide which is more potentially panic-attack-inducing. The secret to her happy life is my minimal contact with her, not only fueled by responsibility, but by my sheer terror at what those 2 fangs can do...not afraid of snakes or many creatures, but this? --Was once voted, "Spider I would least enjoy waking up in bed with me in the morning"..-"nuff said. Although not considered "venomous", as in Black Widow or Brown Recluse, there is just something about this animal that causes me to check for available exits or otherwise have a contengency plan for my escape. I don't believe anyone has ever died from its bite, but I saw what they can do to mice, so this video is the most I can do to involve you in becoming more familiar with the Cobalt Blue without me injuring myself in an attempt to vacate her proximity when she darts (inevitably) towards me at break-kneck speed, unusual for a spider this size.... Enjoy
