Actually it's a Dolomedes tenebrosus thank you "SpinelessScales"! Fishing spiders hunt for food and build webs only to nurse their offspring. This creature was a pet of mine for a few days. It sucked down live insects like little juice-boxes, and would not eat anything that was already dead. I don't know if this species is native to Maine - it might have ridden in on an exotic plant I got in Madawaska.
