The mantis finally decided that the grasshopper wasn't worth the fight.

One of my adult female African mantids (Sphodromantis sp.) eats a locust.

The little wasp nest under the plastic crate in the yard is still hanging in there. Looks like they're down at least 3 individuals though (hunting or deceased?) Almost no size deference between the queen and her daughters. I catch one of my tarantulas drinking for the first time. I know that they do, but spiders are very good at being secretive. This was before his hide was replaced. Got too small. A coonhound at work kills a yellowish-brown preying mantis at the doggie daycare. Then two weeks later, my Dad brings home a tapped-up box saying, "Open it quick. He's been in there overnight." Mom : "Uh-oh. This another garter snake?" LOL! My parents know me too well. It was ANOTHER male mantis of the same species. Must be breeding season. Well, since I can't get a female via postage, I decided to let him ago after a few days of watering and feeding. Hopefully, he'll find a lady. :-) My alligator lizard, now named Frieza, is growing FAST! Shed twice in the short period of being in my care. Still very untame. The little booger hissed at my Mom when she disturbed his afternoon nap. LOL! I gotta try taming him/her down. Maybe in the bathroom where he can't get under anything (he escaped under a freezer for a day). I can't imagine how boring life without animals would be!
