Bitsy caught her bottle fly before Itsy got her's (itsy's the one that pounced in the video). Then Bitsy couldn't figure out how she was going to get her cargo up on her nest. XD 6-7-09 Update : Bitsy's first brood are 1st Instars now and moving around. I'm still waiting for my new camera lens to get some shots of the slings. Itsy's eggs have hatched as well. I'm not %100 sure, but Bitsy's 2nd nest might've hatched - looks a little bit darker in there.. Good thing I bought 24 more vials today. I'm gonna be knee-high in new spiders. XD Bites of Phidippus johnsoni are not generally harmful to humans unless you're very allergic to spiders. Never been bitten, but I imagine it's very itchy like a common sac spider.
Here's a short video of Bitsy's second egg sac the night after she passed away from a spider bite. Not even gonna bother counting until they reach 3rd or 4th instar! Okay, next egg sac!
Just one of my baby jumping spiders chillin' on a twig. Gets surprised at the beginning when a sibling darts down the side of the KK - feeding time.
I started mimicing Bitsy's threat display with the motion of my finger and she actually responded back and only fled when she knew I called her bluff. Very entertaining spiders. 6-7-09 Update : Bitsy's first brood are 1st Instars now and moving around. I'm still waiting for my new camera lens to get some shots of the slings. Here's a longer video featuring the two jumping spider nests in different containers. One in the hollowed root is Itsy's, one in the jar is Bitsy's. I have another earlier hatched batch in (2nd instar?) that I'll make a video of next after I do some maintenance.

Before people get all negative again, this is NOT a black widow and it's not dangerous! She's a harmless jumping spider(my brother said it was on steroids when he saw. She's 3 times bigger than the zebra jumpers we usually get). This is one of two female jumping spiders of this kind I found under broken cement around the backyard. I was trying to get her to jump on my finger like she did earlier but she wasn't cooperating on camera. Tried slipping into my jacket pocket after this was taken ...
